You can achieve the ideal smile with this simple, non-invasive cosmetic dentistry.
You want to improve the appearance of your smile but you really aren’t interested in cosmetic dentistry that is going to make you come back for multiple visits, or require tooth preparation or local anesthesia. Sometimes you are just looking for an easy and painless way to boost the look of your smile. Our Pocono, PA family dentists--Dr. Jeffrey Wert, Dr. Jeremy Olen and Dr. Thomas Hart--can help with a simple procedure called cosmetic bonding.
What is cosmetic bonding?
Cosmetic or dental bonding simply means that our Pocono dentists will apply a tooth-colored resin over problem areas of a tooth. This procedure is designed to help improve small aesthetic issues on one or more teeth. However, this same resin can also be used as a dental filling. When performed for cosmetic purposes only, bonding can be done in just one visit.
What issues can dental bonding fix?
While bonding won’t be able to fix more serious issues like overbites it can hide chips, cracks, fractures, discolorations and small gaps between teeth. In essence, if you are looking for a cosmetic solution for improving the shape or color of your otherwise healthy teeth then dental bonding might be a good option for you.
What are the benefits?
This is one of the simplest and most inexpensive cosmetic procedures available. It doesn’t require tooth enamel to be shaved down or anesthesia to be used. It can be completely painless and non-invasive and can finally give you the more beautiful smile you want in just one visit.
How is bonding performed?
After your consultation where we will determine whether you are a good candidate for bonding, we will then decide the right shade for your resin so that it matches the rest of your teeth. Then we will apply a liquid over your teeth that will rough up the surface so that the bonding resin sticks to the tooth. This allows us to better shape and contour the bonding resin to get the right look. Then we will harden the resin in place with a dental resin.
How should I care for my newly bonded smile?
Stay away from any foods or drinks that can stain your teeth such as wine, dark sodas and tomato sauce for at least 48 hours. You should also avoid smoking cigarettes during this time. Also by brushing and flossing your teeth often you can also prevent stains from dulling the resin over time.
